Basix Men’s Hat - February 2022

The first gift of 2022 was for my brother-in-law, who’s birthday is in February. I found this pattern by Canoe Mtn Designs on Ravelry - Basix Men’s Set - Hat & Scarf and had a small stash of MillaMia Naturally Soft Aran, which just feels lush. Always having to think about what to gift people, especially the men in the family, I thought this would be a good gift to make.

Obviously keeping what I make quiet for those who will be receiving the gifts, I have not posted these projects before, then I got kind of carried away by life and forget about posting them to the blog.

Update! It’s been a while…

Happy 2023!

It’s been a good 6 months since I last posted and I haven’t posted for a while because most projects I’ve worked at have been gifts that I couldn’t write about yet. Several have been gifted now and a few more are in the making. I’ve been posting over on my Insta about some of the projects, so go check it out and I’ll come back here for more detailed updates!

One I posted about in January 2022 and that’s not finished is my first temperature blanket. I ran out of yarn three times! Once in February, that’s when I ran out of my home stash and of course I had no reference to the shade or even the brand of yarn, so had to search for an alternative and failed. So I ended up splitting the temperatures and go on with one shade less.

Below an image of the second time I ran out of yarn in April. I’ve now caught up to early June, but ran out of the third shade and it was out of stock for such a long time. I’ve finally received it in November. Needless to say I got behind big time. Some catching up to do there…

There’s another project I posted about on Instagram, but hasn’t finished either. It was supposed to have finished by Halloween, however same thing happened, ran out of yarn and then Halloween had passed before I could finish, so it’ll have to be finished this year in time for Halloween 2023…

2022 Crochet Project Halloween Another detail of the Halloween project.

I will post a lot of the other items I’ve completed last year over the next few days/weeks, because I didn’t plan ahead. So I’m going to have to make posts as and when I make something, even if it’s a gift and save as a draft until it’s been gifted, then publish the post.

So, keep following the blog and see what I’ve been up to in the past year… and in the future.

Painswick Shawl

…another project finished.

Painswick Shawl draped over stairs banisters

Well, almost, probably just needs a bit of a block, but I couldn’t wait to share the photos.

The pattern is by Veronika Cromwell of Blue Star Crochet

Veronika did her shawl with a gradient yarn cake, I used Stylecraft Head Over Heels All Stars in Saltaire

I really enjoyed making this, it was one of those projects that you could just crochet away without much thinking of following a complicated pattern, once you’ve got the hang of the stitch repeat it was just such a pleasure to crochet. One of those that you can do in front of the TV or even when you’re in company and chatting with people.

This shawl goes perfectly with the fingerless gloves I made some time ago. Mystical Mitts by HanJan Crochet.

Grand Gentleman Hat

It's been a while since my last post, I've had several projects on the go as well as the preparation for Christmas, so the Crochet Hat Challenge has gone a little bit on the back burner. I crochet when I can, so there are hats in the process of being made. I will share projects when they're finished as I can't keep up with posting mid project on each Work In Process (known in the craft community as a WIP).

So I finished Hat 6, having skipped 3, 4 and 5 for now, I will get back to them. Finished hat number 6 in the #crochetcancerchallenge by #sweetpotato3 this pattern is called the Grand Gentleman Hat designed by @straighthookedus I decided to go for an all black version.

Of course this hat can be worn by anyone, any gender, but this one is slightly big on me, so will be labelled large for charity.

I tend to post a bit faster on Instagram than here, so do make sure to follow me on Instagram if you aren't already! https://www.instagram.com/flyniccrafts/

Hat 3 - Crochet Hats for Cancer

Hat number 3 of the #crochetcancerchallenge2021 - this one is Striped Dylan Claire Beanie by @eyeloveknots and was a pattern of the 1st Bonus Weekend.

I think I am going to redo this one in another yarn as this worsted weight 4-ply Lily Sugar & Cream in white and yellow, seems too rough for a beanie hat. So I’m not going to finish this for now and go hunting for other yarn that will feel better and not too scratchy.
Still wanted to share that I got this far, so far…
